Poems and Prayers
Poetry often expresses spiritual things better than prose, because the very idea of poetry indicates feeling and spirit rather than intellect alone. We say that a graceful athlete is “poetry in motion.” There is “poetic justice.”
The best prayers may be spontaneous poems spoken to God. Perhaps the best poems are always prayers. In any case, my attempts to write prayers usually result in poems.
A few poems from other authors are included because they express things in a way my poems don’t.
